Went on a trip to the Grand Canyon last month along with a couple other stops. I haven't been there in a long time so it was nice to see once again. Planning to head to the northeast soon for a visit with family.

Been on a road trip since June 9th and likely another two weeks or so remaining. Been through southern Utah and I'm now heading through Oregon. Good times..

New monitor

Thu Dec 6, 2012, 11:12 AM

What a difference this makes. Check it out.

Picked up the left monitor last year. It's an AOC 2436vh but the contrast and viewing angle has been terrible.

Just received the one on the right, a Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM.

Can you spot the difference? :O

So, I've been fighting with awful migraines for a while and trying to remedy this in any without the use of medication. Hope this helps a little.

Wanderlust

Mon Oct 15, 2012, 9:44 PM

Thinking about throwing in the towel on this whole college thing for a bit. Maybe travel around a while and attempt to pursue my real interest in photography and art. Maybe do some volunteer work in a national park or something. Maybe buy a small piece of land and attempt to live off the grid.

Lots of maybe..

Vicodin, antidepressants and caffeine are on the menu far too much lately. Can't sleep enough, feeling mentally drained all the while my body is tormenting me with aches and pain.

Devious Journal Entry

Sat Oct 13, 2012, 8:24 PM

I've been slowly building up my collection of camping gear and upgrading older stuff. I've got the travel bug for sure, but it may all simply be daydreaming. I'm at a weird sort of crossroads where I've hit an impasse. Part of me wants to settle down, buy a house and maybe start figuring out my life (I mean, I'm only 32). The other, more irrational, spontaneous and dominant side wants to get out and explore.

My backpacking and hiking days seem to have come to and end. I'm just not in the best of shape anymore. I've got a twisted, screwed up spine, bad ankles, bad knees and a collection of other poorly healed injuries. Most days lately it seems I'm just miserably uncomfortable.

I'm trying to finish a degree, but school has never been my thing. I'd rather read books and travel then sit around attempting to be indoctrinated into a system I despise.

Bah..

Five year itch approaching.

Tue Oct 2, 2012, 10:01 PM

Every five years I've consistently made some kind of drastic change in my life. It's like each year thereafter builds upon some absurd need to throw life a curve ball and see where it takes me. That time is rapidly approaching again and I'm so very challenged on how to handle this round.

Yellowstone Trip

Tue Aug 14, 2012, 7:50 PM

Well, back from that little adventure. I should write a trip report later, but I'm beat for now.

Photos are kept on seer :)

Anyway.. It was a good break and a nice time to clear my head and do some thinking before the next semester starts.

Break time..

Tue Aug 7, 2012, 9:54 AM

The summer semester has come to an end and I am grateful to be done with it. I did well in everything minus math. It seems I'm rather rusty in that department and the rushed semester wasn't of much help in the matter.

Anyway, I do feel a break is in order and as such I am planning a trip out to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in Wyoming. I haven't been out that way since probably 1999 so it should be a fun little adventure.

I need to clear my head and bask in solitude for a little while.

If anyone is interested in my photography, I keep it all over at my alternate account at seer

Two weeks until school

Sat May 19, 2012, 9:53 AM

Well, how about that.. I'm two weeks away from my first foray into college life and I'm merely 32 years old. I've always been a bit guilty of procrastination.

I'm out of work, preparing for school and twiddling my thumbs most of the time out of boredom as I have entirely too much free time on my hands. I can't really afford to go anywhere or do anything much.  It'd be epically amazing if I could bring myself to do some art once again.

Plans..

Fri Mar 9, 2012, 9:10 AM

So, I've somewhat settled on what I'll do for school. I'm presently planning on going for an Associate of Science, but I'm picking up some interesting electives such as Geology, Archaeology/Anthropology and some Ancient history classes. I should also be able to get at least one art class in each semester. In the meantime, I signed up for a drawing  class out of pocket to hopefully help rekindle my muse and get oriented to this college thing.

Hope this all works out, but life is never without a little trial and error.

Long overdue update

Mon Feb 27, 2012, 10:50 AM

I'm in the midst of yet another life changing event in my life. I recently left the Army and decided to focus on going to school full time. I'm 32 years old and have yet to attend college nor have I decided what I want to do with my life. It's a rather frustrating realization that has plagued my every waking moment lately. I've had numerous different jobs in my life and have always sort of thrived on trying entirely new things every few years while never settling on a future career.

Things I have learned that I enjoy are travel, art, photography, the outdoors, fixing, building or improving things. I'm really good with computers - but, I've sort of grown to hate the damn things. Yet, I'm presently looking to enroll in school with a focus on computer science and programming. Then there's the idea of pursuing an art degree. I'd enjoy it, I know I would. In that scenario I fear living my life as a starving artist unable to find employment only to wind up sitting in a cubicle processing TPS reports for a shitty wage while doodling on the back of neon sticky notes.

So... Yeah, decisions need to be made. In that I am having some degree of difficulty.

Vacation!

Thu May 12, 2011, 7:26 PM

I'm heading West to Utah in a couple days for the next four weeks or so. I'm in need of some space, solitude and time to myself and I haven't been out that way in a while.

I think I'll go explore Northern Utah for a week before heading south to the Canyonlands. From there, I'm thinking of heading west to Zion National Park and leave the rest on a whim and as time permits. I may depart early for a stop in Yellowstone as well. No real plans, just a goal to escape civilization for a bit.

Slump

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 1, 2011, 11:40 PM
It's good to be back in the states once again. I much prefer trees and mountain vistas to desolate desert wasteland.

I'm still not able to get back into my own interests. I keep hitting a wall with that and finding myself stumped not only in realizing a creative outlet but deciding on where I should be going in life from here.

I don't know what sort of endeavor I might succeed in that would also maintain my interest and sanity for the long run.

As of now, I'm thinking of six months or so on the road for some soul searching and then off to school full time.

I'm uncertain I'll ever be happy spending my life behind a desk in front of a glowing screen. I have an undying urge to create with my hands something tangible.

In the meantime, I'm seriously overdue for some hiking, camping and fishing..

Boredom

Sun Feb 20, 2011, 5:46 PM

I've got some time off lately and after being in Iraq where you don't really get time off nor have anything to do when that might happen - I'm just at a loss for what to do now that I'm home.

This is partly due to the weather screwing with my head. First it's nice, then it's cold and windy. That's Colorado for you though. I'd rather be outside, hiking some distant mountain but I can hardly climb a flight of stairs anymore. That's depressing enough in itself. Instead, I usually sit out in the parking lot working on a 38 year old truck I picked up to keep my mind occupied. My mind needs to be occupied, busy, entertained and interested. Otherwise, I'm miserable. Art use to do that for me, but I've drifted away from that. My muse beat me up and ran away and I've been clumsily chasing after it ever since.

Hmm.. I have no idea what this post is all about. Move along! :D

When I go to see a movie, I use the kiosk and buy "senior" tickets to get the discount. I've been doing this for quite some time and no one has ever questioned it when tearing the ticket. So, either nobody cares or I look old as a dirt?

That is all..!

Going home

Sun Jan 2, 2011, 10:23 AM

A few more weeks in the desert and I'll be on my way home. I should be excited, happy and what not. Instead, I feel a bit nervous and unsure.

It's another year and another time in my life that I need to seriously reconsider where I'm headed. I'm not getting any younger, and yet I've never been able to settle on what I want to do and where I want to be. I'm a hopeless wanderer, constantly moving from one idea to the next, always searching for something else that just might feel right. I do believe life is about the experiences you have, but I also really want to feel that I have some sense of direction or belonging. It's a conflicting sense of desire that has me feeling entirely out of balance.

At the moment, I'm just craving some quality time alone in the mountains to clear my head of sand.
